both of them have  noun meanings and i get confused when i try to use them. Which one should i prefer?

I don't recognize changing as a common noun form (except in the changing of the guard), but in any case I would suggest that when a gerund exists beside a more standard noun form, you should generally opt for the standard noun except when concerned particularly with the action represented.
