hmmmmmmm, i guess i would agree with most of you for some extent, especially with GG when she mentioned that TCP is used by English language learners from around the globe and using the chat slang would only spoil their English.
However, I partially disagree with the importance of asking about "asl ?" I may dislike the abbreviation, but it is normal I guess to ask people about their gender (that can be obvious from the real name), location (to have a rough idea about the culture and society and general thoughts) and finally age (to predict the amount of experience and knowledge may be).
As I have initially mentioned, A.S.L, cannot tell you everything about a person but usually it would give you a rough idea about his/her thoughts, psycology, culture and all may affect one's personality.
I may be wrong, but that what I think.
