Please check the following.
  1. See what effects his weakness has upon his personality and how those effects affect his actions. (Can effect and affect can be used together? What's the difference between the two?)
  2. You have to judge yourself by putting yourself in his shoes. (Is this sentence semantically and gramatically correct?)
  3. In a May 30, 2006 interview with Der Spiegel .......... (Is the use of the article "a" correct before a date?)

1.  The sentence is fine.  Search for affect and effect in the search box.  There are probably hundreds of posts on the subject.  Long story short:  99% of the time affect is a verb, and effect is a noun.
2.  Fine.
3.  Fine.  a goes with interview, not with the date.  The date is used as an adjective to interview.  It specifies which interview.  The meaning is therefore:  In an interview with Der Spiegel on May 30, 2006 ...

What role(parts of speech) the date plays here?
To me, it looks like adjective.

Also the question that I have asked on this post (What role the date plays here?), could I had used does in it as What role does the date play here? What's the difference between the two (if both could be used)?

CJ -- "The date is used as an adjective ..."

GB -- What role (part of speech) ...?

CJ -- Adjective!!!  Smile [:)]
_________

The correct way to ask the question is What role does the date play here?

(What role the date plays here? is not correct.)

What role the date plays here?

There is no operator in the sentence.

To form interrogatives, place the operator before the subject

He is nice

Is he nice?

The date plays an important role here.

What kind of role does the date play.
