Hi,

He stopped by the hospital. He said Mark told him about Tina being hit by a car and wanted to check in.

What does 'check in' mean?

Thanks!

Hi,

He stopped by the hospital. He said Mark told him about Tina being hit by a car and wanted to check in.

What does 'check in' mean? In this context, it seems like it means 'get admitted to the hospital as a patient'.
However, the usual idom is 'check himself in'.

The sentence is unclearly written. I'm not sure whether it's Mark or the other man who wants to check in. Or even Tina?

Best wishes, Clive

This is pretty unclear. I take it to mean that "he", having been informed by Mark of Tina's accident, wanted to visit Tina to see how she was doing. So "check in" means "stop by Tina's hospital room for a visit."

I'd say he stopped by the hospital to see how she was doing.

Hi,
Thanks all for your comments.
I can't find any definition that has the same meaning as you said here in the dictionary.

Can 'check in' mean 'to see how a person is doing when something bad happened to him but not necessary in the hospital?

Thanks.
