English today

The modern world is getting smaller all the time. Every day distances between different countries seem less, therefore it’s becoming more and more desirable to know at least one foreign language – especially English.

Approximately one billion people speak this language nowadays and that’s about 20% of the planet’s population. Around 400 million people speak English as their first language. For the other 600 million people it’s either a second language or a foreign one.

English is a first language in the United Kindom, United States, Australia and New Zealand. It’s one of the official languages in Canada, the Irish Republic and the Republic of South Africa.

As a second language English is spoken in more than 60 countries. It’s used by the government, businessmen and universities.

English is a language of politics, science and technology, business and trade, sport and pop music.

- 80% of all information on the Net is in English.
- 75% of all the world’s letters and faxes are in English.
- 60% of all international telephone calls are made in English
- More than 60% of all scientific journals are published in English.
To know English today is absolutely necessary for every educated person, every good specialist, though learning a foreign language is not an easy thing – it’s a long and slow process that takes a lot of time and patience, but that’s a must.

English is taught throughout the world and many people know it at present. So if you’re still in doubt, drop it and get to learning this language, even if you don’t actually need it at the moment. Besides, knowing at least one foreign language can raise a possibility of getting a good job or something.

Maybe you'll wanna add something or on the contrary delete, I don't know. I just want it
to sound authentic accurate.

Thanks in advance, appreciate your help and time.

English today

The modern world is getting smaller and smaller all the time. Every day distances between different countries seem less, therefore it’s becoming more and more desirable to know at least one foreign language – especially English.

Approximately one billion people speak English and that’s about 20% of the planet’s population. Around 400 million people speak English as their first language. For another 600 million people it’s a second language. [1]

English is a first language in the United Kingdom, United States, Australia, and New Zealand. It’s one of the official languages in Canada, the Irish Republic, and the Republic of South Africa. [2]

As a second language English is spoken in more than 60 countries. It’s used by the government, businessmen, and academics.

English is a language of politics, science and technology, business and trade, sports, and pop music. For example:

- 80% of all information on the Internet is in English.
- 75% of all the world’s letters and faxes are in English.
- 60% of all international telephone calls are in English.
- More than 60% of all scientific journals are published in English.

Knowing English today is an absolute necessity for all educated people. Even though learning a foreign language is not an easy thing – it’s a long and slow process that takes a lot of time and patience--in today's modern world knowing how to communicate in English has become an absolute must, not want.

English is taught throughout the world and many people know it at the present time. So if you’re still in doubt, stop worrying and start learning English, even if you don’t actually need it at the moment. Besides, knowing at least one foreign language just might lead to a career advancement.

Notes:

1) second language: That can be either a native "second language" or a learned "second language".

2) I always add the serial comma. There is flexbility in how this is used.

Your essay is fine, especially for someone learning English. You still need to work on integrating one paragraph with the next. It has to be smoother.

Outline:

*English continues to grow in prominence
*English is the international business language
*English is spoken widely by X people in these countries
*English is used extensively by these occupations (i/e., all pilots use English to communicate with the tower)
*Even if you have no specific need for English now, learning English might open doors that allow for career advancement

My perfect day was when I and my girlfried spent together the holidays in  Tijuca’s beach in Rio de Janeiro. We projected many things while we were travelling by plane and as we arrived, went to our flat that rent. It was clean when we arrived and there were two rooms, two  bathrooms, a large living room with a fine sight and a kitchen.chemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />>>
