CAn you please check it? Thank you.

Chemical composition of oil

Oil is sticky, oily liquid, of brown-greenish colour. According to its chemical composition it is a very complex mixture/compound made of several thousands various hydrocarbon compounds. They can be distinguished by the way they mutually  tie carbon atoms and by its saturation with hydrogen. The lightest compound in oil is methan (gas), and the heaviest compounds are heavy asphalt substances.

I thought the word 'viscous' would be a better alternative than 'sticky'. Especially as your speaking of oil in general terms.

Oil is a viscous liquid of brown-greenish colour.

Thank you both.

Squeaky, I have noticed that the author uses both terms separately 'viscous' and 'sticky'. I guess they mean more or less the same.

Viscous (thick and sticky), according to  my Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary..
