My father is Chinese. I know that we get red envelopes(of pocket money) whenever I go to Grandma's Wink [;)] and red is what they wear on birthdays and to weddings. But I wonder why red? Can anyone tell me?

Here's also a story(or myth?) my aunt told me: The reason why Chinese people drink tea instead of clear water is because in the days of the spreading of cholera (an acute diarrheal disease), putting leaves in the water was the only way to mark that the water had been boiled and sterilized (and therefore safe to drink) since only hot water will extract colors from leaves. I thought it was pretty interesting!

Thanks, Hepburgeng. Do you know the reason for the difference in food practice between Northern Chinese and Southern Chinese? Is it because of Northern China produces a large amount of wheat?

you are right somewhat, rishSmile [:)]

the key reason is the different climate that is fit for different cropper to grow.

there's much rice planting in most of the southern places, while much wheat in northern's, however, in northeast of China, rice is also planted for main food.

This is really useful information, Ogre. Thanks again.

He is absolutely right.I come from Northeat China and I eat nearly equal rice and wheat flour.

Our domestic original religions are Taoism and Confucianism.

The others are Buddhism,Christianism,Orthodox Church and Islamism.

Most of Chinese people don't get any religion.
