What does  "clinical" mean in the expression, "clinical professor of medicine"?

 A clinician is a doctor who sees patients (as opposed to research or classroom teaching). A clinical professor can be a doctor who does patient care himself, supervises doctors in training who see patients, etc. - but I am told that the precise job description for this title varies greatly from one institution to another.
