Hello,

Do British English vowel sounds sound clipped to you? It is well-known that vowels in upper class British English tend to be subject to rough treatment. It'd be particularly interesting to hear what North American, South African, Australian and other non-British English-speaking people think about BrE vowels. Do you associate BBC-English, for instance, with clipped vowels?

Hi Alienvoord,

You asked:

What are clipped vowels?

When I was talking about 'clipped vowels' I meant that vowels are pronounced in a staccato fashion.

Some British English speakers use a glottal stop instead of intervocalic "t", so "better" is pronounced [bɛʔə]. Is that what you mean?

Since Scots, Welsh, and Irish have their own dialects
why don't you call British English : 'English English', or simply English ?
