What’s funny is close has two pronunciations and two meanings. I can be close to you and I can close the door. “I’m going to close the door if you get any closer.” In close the door the “s” has a “z” sound and in I am close to you the “s” has a typical “s” sound as in snake.
doesn´t close end with an 's'-sound?
My dictionary & in fact most lexicons tell me it may be pronounced as /clcZ/ or /clcðZ/. I mostly utter the easy or ‘lazy’ 1st version.
this should be considered incorrect then according to ae pronunciation?

Hey, you're right about that! further down at the answers link, right? didn't see that .. in fact when I say it to myself now that's the way I say it - should trust my ear better ... doesn't sound right to me with a 'z' for the adjective. tnks
I have never heard the s in close pronounced as a z. Also, I have never heard anyone pronounce the th in clothes.
