Hi There,

Are there universal rules for Collective Nouns: Team, Batch. Jury, Committee, etc? Is the explanation given in (URL removed by mod) for the use of Collective Nouns satisfactory? If not, how should they be used?

That explanation is more germane to British English, and it seems satisfactory.

Most collective nouns are treated invariably as singular nouns in American English.
