Could someone explain this particular usage of the word, "read"? It was used on an online forum like this:
"You are then offered 'premium' (read: expensive) packages."
Thanks in advance.

In such cases it means 'interpret as'. In other words, they are telling you that 'premium' should be interpreted as 'expensive'.
Cheers (read; great happiness be upon you).

Another way to put that would be "for which read expensive". That has probably been shortened to "read"
