Please Check my work. Tell me what I am doing wrong.

A. without changing the meaning combine each group into one sentence. Leave out any unnecessary words and use correct punctuation. The correct sentence is in red

1. Karen pedaled her bicycle. It was a ten-speed bicycle. She pedaled up the hill.

Karen pedaled her ten-speed bicycle up the hill

2. Andrew plans to go skiing this winter. Sonia plans to go also.

Andrew and Sonia plans on going skiing the winter.

3. Jose wanted to g shopping. Cynthia wanted to go shopping too.

The shopping mall was closed.

Jose and Cynthia wanted to go shopping but the mall was closed.

4. Our closest friends are coming to dinner. Our closest friends are the Cantwells. (use an appositive phrase)

Our close friends the Cantwell’s are coming for dinner.

5. Lauren wanted to play Space Invaders. Space Invaders is an electronic game. (use an appositive phrase)

Space Invader is an electronic game that Lauren wants to play.

6. The runner neared the end of the race. The runner was gasping for breath. (use a participial phrase)

The runner was gasping for breath near the end of the race.

7. The film was not very interesting. The film had been praised by the critics. (use the word which)

The film which had been praised by the critics was not very interesting.

8. She held the baby up to the window. He could see the parade. (use the words so that)

She held the baby up to the window so that he could see the parade.

9. We had spent two hours trying to start the car. We called the mechanic. (use the word after)

We called the mechanic after we spent two hours trying to start the car.

10. Applications are due in a week. My guidance counselor told me. ( use the word that)

There are two people.

4. Our closest friends are coming to dinner. Our closest friends are the Cantwells. (use an appositive phrase) 

Our close friends the Cantwell’s are coming for dinner.

No possessive is required, and the adjective needs to match the source.


7. The film was not very interesting. The film had been praised by the critics. (use the word which)

The film, which had been praised by the critics, was not very interesting.
