Coming down the road

Even police are looking for ways to cut gas consumption. A reporter interviewing a senior police officer says "As far as I know, your department has acquired a gold cart to patrol the streets and another one coming down the road". (I don't recall the exact words used)

My question is what's the meaning of "coming down the road" and what's a good substitute?
Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming you meant "golf cart" not "gold cart" in your question.

The police are planning on acquiring another golf cart to patrol the streets.

One possible substitute is "another one on the way".

"on order", "soon to be purchased".
