1)I'm not sure whether or not the punctuation in the following sentence is corret:

"Note that annotations are not merely syntactic labels attached to the component."

Is a comma needed after 'Note' or 'Note that'? If why, what is the rule behind it.

2)Unfortuantely I have never learned how to punctuate an english sentence correctly. Can you recommend any specific books on this topic?

Thanx,

No comma. "Note that annotations ..."

Same for "say that", "said that", "thought that", and so on.

He says that annotations are not ...
I think that annotations are not ...
Observe that annotations are not ...

I can't recommend any specific books. You should be able to find many such books at any of the major book stores. You can also do an Internet search on "punctuation".

Hope that helped.
