Hello,

Ok - Is this corect? And if not, why is it not?

"I went to the store yesterday, and, admittedly, I was frightened."

Thanks for the help. I do appreciate it!

Why a comma before the 'and'? It's not necessary.

'Admittedly', on the other hand, is a sentence adverb and therefore requires commas.

I would write your sentence as:

I went to the store and, admittedly, I was frightened.

On the other hand, I would write it like this:

I went to the store and was admittedly frightened.

Basically, what I'm trying to get it at is this....

if you have a conjunction and then an introductory word that follows it then what is the comma situation?

Because if you have two independent clauses, you need a comma after the conjuction. Right?

what about two independent cluases with a conjunction and an introductory word (adimittedly, hence, therefore)? What's the comma situation there?

"I went to the store and, admittedly, I was frightened."  : Don't you need a comma after 'store' since 'I was frightened is an independend clause -could be a sentence by itself?

That's how I would punctuate it.

Well, 'I went to the store and was frightened' is a simple sentence. In your sentence, the subject of the second clause is the same as the subject of the first. Even if the subjects were different, the comma would be optional and a question of style.

Naturally, there's going to be less coherence between people here on things like punctuation. I've since looked at some sources on coordinating conjunctions and that's my take on it.

It's hard to say without any context, but I can imagine someone writing "I went to the store, and I was frightened". So, if we add "admittedly", we would have "I went to the store, and, admittedly, I was frightened". It depends on the context.
