'Her parents were King George V1 and Queen Elizabeth, who died in March 2002'.

The more I read this sentence, the more confused I become. It looks to me as though the writer means that both parents, George and Elizabeth, died on the same date. Shouldn't the comma be after King George ? Please advise.

Thanks,

Hi Mrs. Smtih,

Welcome to the Forum.

'Her parents were King George V1 and Queen Elizabeth, who died in March 2002'.

Yes. I'd put the comma here. 'Her parents were King George VI, and Queen Elizabeth who died in March 2002'.

I'd also consider putting a comma after 'Elizabeth', because the information is just extra information about Elizabeth and not really needed to identify her. However, I think that would seem like too much fussiness in this example.

Best wishes, Clive
