"This would, at least in part, explain why, although S. usually expresses himself in a clearly Skeptical way, he occasionally does it in a less careful manner which may certainly mislead us."
Should I take out the commas in ", at least in part,"?
Thanks,

No, they sound OK to me Sextus, though I would write it after the "explain"...

I find the sequence 'explain why, although' somewhat awkward, and the whole sentence a bit patched together.
One option-- "This would explain, at least in part, why S., usually expressing himself in a clearly Skeptical way, occasionally is less careful, thus misleading."

What about:
"This would explain, at least in part, why S., usually expressing himself in a clearly Skeptical way, occasionally does it in a less careful, and hence misleading, manner." ?

"...who usually expresses..."?
"...occasionally does so..."?

MrP, I thought of those, too, but hestiated because I felt 'occasionally does so' might sound like 'occasionally expresses himself in a clearly Skeptical way less carefully, and misleadingly'.

Thanks for your replies. I sometimes copy and paste, and forget to make all the changes in my posts.
