commas before conjuctions ????

What about the (...)     What are the rules for the(...)

1 question :I saw some where about commas before conjunctions.(,)relating to subject verb agreement. about coordinating conjuntions.  When do i use a comma before and,or,nor,for,but,so,yet.

ex:     John turns to Maria and escorts her away from Tom.

but if i had this sentence.ex: John turns to Maria (,)and he escorts her away from Tom.

Besauce the two clauses have there own subject verb agreements now.I'm I correct?

coordinating conjunctions are to be preceded by a comma; however, this is handled in an offhand manner.

If the conjunction is a coordinator, then comma is needed provided what it links are independent clauses.

If words, phrases or subordinate clauses are linked, then comma is not needed.

conjunctive adverbs are also conjunctions: however, for instance. 

They are not strong enough to link two independent clauses only separated by a comma --Semi colon wanted.

subordinating conjunctions:

compare the punctuation

Provided it will not rain, we go to the city centre to do some shopping.

We go to the city centre to do some shopping provided it will not rain
