Hi,
I read that you can use a comma to set off contrasting phrases. Yes
So is the following sentence correct?
1. She didn't spend half of her money, but all. OK, if you want to really stress the last phrase as a contratst.
Also, please take a look at the next three sentences:
2. She was wounded but alive. OK. You could put a comma, if you wish.
3. She wasn't killed, but wasn't even hurt. 'But' is wrong here, because the second clause is not an 'opposite'. Instead say She wasn't killed, and wasn't even hurt or She wasn't killed, nor was she even hurt.
4. She wasn't killed but even hurt. Similar to my comment above.
Does sentence 4 sound right to you? The structure seems to be correct because it's combining "wasn't killed" + "wasn't even hurt." No?
The last questions: which of the following do you prefer? Is sentence 5 awkward?
5. I am currently attending X and am interested in Y. I prefer this version.
6. I am currently attending X and interested in Y.
Best wishes, Clive
