Can anyone tell me the comparative form of "dense?"  Is "denser" incorrect?

Dense is monosyllabic and according to the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, denser is correct.

Agreed, denser is correct.  However, to me, it sounds a bit odd, so I would resort to the always correct if not necessary more dense.
