The usual usage of "compensate" is "compensate sb. for sth."
e.g. The insurance company compensated her for the loss of her car.
you may note that "for" is followed by the cause of the compensation. and the structure "compensate sb. for sth." is reasonable and easily understandable.
But I wonder whether I can say "compensate sb. sth."
e.g. The insurance company compensated her USD100,000.
