I would like to ask why someone called Conus Lotus  has the "proficient speakers" badge?

His ranking happens to be the same as mine and he has fewer messages posted!

 Is there favouritism abroad?

If at first you don't succeed sky-diving is not for you.

Well, for one thing, I don't believe CL complained about favoritism, TT.

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master-- that's all.'

TT, if you think you have been overlooked for a proficient speaker tick, then just let us know. There is no need to approach this by complaining about another member's status.

The name says it all.

I was unaware that one had to request this particular badge of office N.T.B, I was under the impression that it was bestowed upon  one meritoriously.  I did not realize one had to put one's own name forward for recognition as with "The Emmy" awards!

Actually there were TWO members mentioned Nona, (if you will note, two separate messages,) the other bears the ambitious moniker of "Good God" (note the capital G) and HE has only posted SIX messages!!

Just a generaly note for people who want to be similarly recognized: It's a really bad idea to say "I deserve this because someone else has it too." It has nothing to do with post counts.

In my experience, people who consistently post helpful and correct posts in the grammar and vocabulary sections get noticed by the people who bestow these ticks. And if you have been doing that and you feel you have been overlooked, then a polite PM to a moderator (who can all receive them from any member) is the way to go. A public complaint about your lack of "recognition" is NOT the way to go.

Active participation in "topic of the moment" or adding words that start with the last letter of the previous word or talking about your favorite movies or sports figures are ways to practice using English, but post count has nothing to do with anything except post count.

And finally, the proficiency check is not a "reward" for good behavior or active participation. It's to let learners know "this is a response you can trust."

Well said G.G.

WOW!!  This has really brought some quick (and PROFICIENT) responses. I only wish my "Nietzsche" thread had been so successful!
