The books by Quirk are supposed to be some of the best, but let's wait for other responses. Some of the other forum members will have loads of suggestions, I'm sure.

I've worked with the series of Grammar in use by Cambridge University Press, they are clear books with a lot of exercises and explanations. Just my recommendation.
