im in english comp II doing a summary for an essay and was told that you have to have a thesis for a summary by one person and told i didnt need one by another. what to do?

My question is: Do you need to have a thesis in a summary?

i was told yes and no by two differnt people at school.
don't know what to do.

A thesis statement is a one sentence summary of what the main purpose of your paper is and is usually used in writing essays.

A summary is a rewrite of a passage from a book, article, etc., in your own words. Usually, the summary is shorter and gives an overview of the material in the passage.
