Context:

 We observed a significant association between neuroblastoma and the common minor alleles of three consecutive single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) at chromosome band 6p22 and containing the predicted genes FLJ22536 and FLJ44180 (P=1.71x10–9 to 7.01x10–10; allelic odds ratio, 1.39 to 1.40).

===========================

  It seems that the author refers to "chromosome band 6p22 contains the predicted genes..."

But why the author used "and" before "containing"?

I think it's an error.  You'd expect to see another participle earlier in the sentence, like "covered with chocolate and containing a variety of nuts".

re the full article: same opinion.

Edit.  I don't mean it's an error of information or fact, just grammar.  He's sort of ticking off the observations which seem to support his thesis, or theory, and the presence of "the predicted genes" is another item in the series.  It's just not treated that way grammatically.

 I think it's an error, too.

I think they're trying to say that they found an association

between

A. neuroblastoma

and

B. the common minor alleles of three SNPs.

The alleles

1.  are located at 6p22

and

2.  contain the predicted genes (FLJ ... & FLJ ...).
