Dear teachers,

Would you please tell me if there are phrasal verbs that are copular?

Thanks a lot,

Hela

Hello Hela

Only one springs to mind:

1. It looks like it's turned out nice again.

i.e. it's a nice day.

I've no doubt there are others, though!

It will depend on how to interpret "copular"

amount to
(EX) Her advice amounts to an order.
act as
(EX)  She acts as lawyer.
count as
(EX) The book counts as his life work.
pass for
(EX) You can pass for 20 or younger.
change into
(EX) The grapes changed to sweet.
end up
(EX) He ended up a thief.
make him (?)
(EX) I'll make him a good wife.

In Japan today even dogs are learning how to bow-wow in English.

What do you mean Paco by "how to interpret copular"? Isn't the verb called copular when it related the subject directly to word (adjective or noun) that follows the verb which itself might have the same meaning as be or become?

See you later.

For example, "stand up" in "The pole <stands up> straight" is someway like a copular, because it says "the pole is straight".
