Money decides Chinese youth’s love

Love at first sight happened when marketing officer Lu Yun was introduced to his girlfriend two years ago, but he recently has discovered that money is the most important thing.

Practically, money is the reason for a series of rows between this couple before they decided to break up early this year. “She says directly that we have to have a flat. No house means nothing,” said Lu. <<< What does this phrase mean?

Many single people say that they have examined their partners’s finances prior to deciding about their marriage. 85.5% of the people who participated in the survey said that the younger  generation is more interested in financial matters when deciding about the selection of a lover than previous generations were.

Best wishes, Clive

Hi again,

I think I missed correcting some of your sentences, so here they are.

Lu said he was unable to buy a house. “The mortgage payment every month is $ 950,” said Lu, "and my salary is $1,100”.

Lu felt sad about his situation, but he wasn’t angry with his girlfriend. “The house’s price is high, everything is getting/becoming expensive. Having a rich husband means there is a happy marriage”, Lu said.

The survey shows that 40% of the participants balance true love during the search for a relationship. And there are an equivalent number who believe in love at first sight. 'Balance' is no a good word to choose. I don't understand.

“I still believe that they choose each other by love”, says John Zhao, a public servant in BeiJing. “We have more choice and experience than our parents. But although we consider marrying for money that doesn’t mean we don’t have real love”.

Zhang Yuzhang, a professor of socilogy at Huazhong University, comments: “Love is a feeling and it needs material to be realised, strong and durable.” Say this last part another way, I don't understand it.

Best wishes, Clive

means that house is more important than the marriage or simply means that house is an important condition for the marriage.

means that house is more important than the marriage or simply means that house is an important condition for the marriage.

OK. “She says directly that we have to have a flat. A house is an important condition for marriage,” said Lu.

However, a flat is not the same as a house. Perhaps you mean a home?

Best wishes, Clive

“Love is a feeling and it needs materialistic possessions to nurture it to be strong and durable.” .
