Teaching approach has changed since the
invention of computer and the rapid development of the internet. People around
the world can study together in the online classrooms. However, many people
argue that online learning will modify the social interaction between students.
Therefore, this essay will discuss the benefits and negatives of the online
learning.
The first argument in favour of online learning is
that it is flexible and suitable for wide range of people. Firstly, students
can take the course they need with the flexible time which is not based on
semester schedules like traditional classrooms. For instance, students can
choose the convenient time block when they fully awake. Furthermore, online
learning provides the courses which are appropriate from junior to senior
citizens. Consequently, workers have an opportunity to study without abandoning
their jobs. In brief, students can choose online courses with flexible
timetable and suitable for their purposes.
The further reason support online learning is that they
can solve geographic and information problems. To begin with, people from all
continents around the globe can registry the reputation course and study at
their own home. They just need a computer and the internet connection to access
to online learning without travel expenses. Moreover, the information on the
internet is updated regularly and therefore students can receive the latest
useful information.
Although there are some advantages, online learning still
has some disadvantages.
The major disadvantage opposing this issue is that there is
no social interaction. Students attend online classrooms usually use mail to
contact each other and they create virtual chat rooms to discuss about the
assessments without real face to face interaction. They do not have close
relationship with their teachers, as well. In addition, many students probably
feel isolated at their house because of the lack of campus atmosphere. In
general, the loss of social interactions might be one consequence of online learning.
In conclusion, this essay has identified the benefits and
negatives of online learning. Despite of the convenience of students that they
can study whenever they want and wherever they live, online learning may make
the social communication skill of students weaker. The government should assist some accessories for rural or inaccessible areas because online learning is a good solution for people in there have the chance to study with the
suitable expenses.
