My family has been .................. pet from generation to generation. But I now would like to tell you about my present pet animal "Jex" the bull dog.

Please tell me which word can be appropriate in the blanks. And also correct my two sentences.

My family have been pet-owners for generations. My family has been keeping pets for generations. My family has passed a love of animals from generation to generation.

Now I would like to tell you about my present pet; Jex the bulldog.

I wasn't 100% clear on the meaning you wanted for the first sentence. Also, why have you used 'but' at the start of the second one?

Thank you.

I am writing essay `My pet'

The two sentences which I start with.

I prefer (My family have been pet-owners for generations. But now I would like to tell you about my present pet, Jex the bulldog.)

Hi,

If you want to use 'but', it's better to write it this way.

My family have been pet-owners for generations, but now I would like to tell you about my present pet, Jex the bulldog.

Best wishes, Clive

My family has been keeping pets for generations, but now I would like to tell you about my present pet, Jex the bulldog. I think that would work.
