Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

Which is correct, we would have taken a discount on the purchase price or we would have taken a discount to the purchase price? Neither of these seems correct. It is not even clear to me whether you are selling or buying.

Here are some good ways to say this kind of thing.

The seller 'offers a discount' on the price. The buyer 'receives a discount' on the price.

Best wishes, Clive

Actually, the buyer can take a discount on the purchase price.
Items are often sold commercially this way.  If the buyer pays the seller within 5 days (or 10 or whatever the agreement is), he may take a 5% (or 10% or whatever) discount on the purchase price.  Some buyers take the discount even if they are late in paying.  (The bigger the corporation, the more likely they are to take the discount no matter what the terms and no matter how late they pay!)

Hi,

So, 'take a discount' may be a business term. However, in everyday English, it seems to me that 'get a discount' would be much, much more common. Google seems to bear this out.

Bets wishes, Clive
