Can I say,

(A) They set off at 9 o'clock in John's father's car.

      They set off at 9 o'clock in the morning by car.

(b) They held a small concert at the hall.

(c) The old folks were smiles and gave them a big applause / ...and gave an

      applause to them.

(d) When they arrived, they were greeted by the superintendent. All the old

      folks welcomed them.

(f) The old folks felt / were very delighted. This was a day full of meaningful.

(g) They brought some mandarin oranges to / for them.
