Can I say,

 

 

(a) He gave mother a rose of plant. It is sweet of smell.

(b) The rose grew healthily. / The rose was grew big.

(c) He gave mother a little rose plant. A sweet smell came from the rose plant.

(d) She watered the plant. Besides that, she looked after the plant too.

(e) She gave a rose for a gift.

Here is my pick :

(1) He gave mother a rose plant and it smelt sweet.
