Could anonymity be useful?

So, that Anon is copying you, right? How can a person copy the writing style of another?Smile [:)] That can't be for a long time, and you know it!

And after this post, let me say that I think I know who Anon is..Thinking [*-)] So, trying to hide yourself with British words, eh?

Hey, hey, wait! Have you seen that MrP started with "well" aswell? And..he is British! ..but, as I said in another post, it can't be him, or maybe it can! Pff..it's hard to be a detective!

I am going to be a good girl and will give you 1/2 more, so, the scores are..

...or maybe it can!

No, it can't be me. At least, I don't think so. Anon says he doesn't log in when he answers, and here I am, happily logged in, and answering. So it must be someone else.

(I'm glad we got that sorted out. I was starting to wonder too, when I saw that "Well,".)

Yep, you are right!

(I'm glad we got that sorted out. I was starting to wonder too, when I saw that "Well,".)

So, MrP, are you thinking the same thing I am thinking?Smile [:)]

Who uses "well"?
Whose writing-style is similar to Anon's?

"He", so you are both sure that Anon is a he, maybe you both know who he is but you don't want to tell me!Stick out tongue [:P]

My conclusion, "He" is the other boy/man in this thread..Smile [:)]

Yeah, so you think it's me, and you think I'm a "boy/man"... LOL, what is a "boy/man"? I'm not a boy/man, I'm a dude. Stick out tongue [:P]

Listen up: I always log in, and I've been answering posts for a while, as a way to practice. I'm not afraid to answer any posts.
Now look at how it all started: I answered a post by Yoong Liat, then that Anon answered too, and pointed out some good things. I re-answered and, seeing he (provided Anon is a guy) was not really a beginner and probably he had been chacking this forum for a while, I suggested registering. He then opened this thread and said what you can see if you look again at his first post. And then me and you Ana started to discuss here.

Now, do you think I re-answered Yoong's post anonymously in order to re-re-answer myself non-anonymously and tell myself to register? And then open this thread anonymously because I had told myself to register? LOL!!! That would be too stupid. Or maybe it would be fun. You know what? I'm going to open a thread where I answer myself and criticize myself, I want to see if arguing with myself I manage to get angry because of myself. Smile [:)]

If you don't have a sense of humor already, it's about time you buy one.

Kooyeen, thanks! Really..pff! I really needed to laugh and your post made me so!LOL

I support you, Anon-yeen, if you open that thread, you will make the the happiest girl ever!Open it, open it! (Whisper [:-*]I am imagining it and I can't help myself not to laugh, that would be really funny!)

I have another suggestion about that person! I clicked on "not readed", and saw a name which was pretty similar, I started to read his posts and..Bingo! I thnk it's him! He posted a paragraph and Philip didn't find any mistakes..so, in conclusion, that Anon wasn't you either MrP!Big Smile [:D]

Ana 4-1 Kooyeen (A way of increasing your score would be..I guess you know, create that thread, create that thread..Stick out tongue [:P])

Hi, everybody!

Maybe I should have started with "well," but I can ensure you that I'm the original poster, while this guy

 Anonymous wrote:

Well, I have a half-finished game of noughts and crosses tattooed on my forehead. If you do too, then I guess...

is not (but I found his/her post amusing! Smile [:)] )

First, I'd like to thank those who have really answered my question. The topic was not "Guess who I am" but to what extent anomimity in answering questions can be useful both to the questioner (will s/he tend to rely less on the answer?) and to the community (could it avoid useless quarrels?).

 Pucca wrote:

And going back to the topic..an anonimous post would be helpful if you want to ask something but you don't want others to see who is asking so.

Let me disagree with you. If the community can se who is asking a certain question, the answer will probably be better tailored to specific needs and interests. For instance, if Kooyeen (by the way, sorry for misspelling your nick! Embarrassed [:$] ) posts a question about present perfect, he will probably receive more answers related to AmE than I would, because everybody knows that "he's learning American English"!

My point was exactly the opposite: while anonimity is NEVER useful in asking, it could be in answering.

Ok, point no.1: my English is not good at all, I'm learning and I ask questions, but I also try to answer to other posts. I do it mainly because I think it helps me try to express myself. Plus, answering questions, I can share what I know, and in that way if I have learned something wrong, I can easily get corrected. And trying to answer questions I often end up asking, instead.

This is a very good point.

Point no.3: as I already said in some thread, I always and only rely on native speakers. I don't even trust proficient members or advanced learners. Only natives. This doesn't mean I don't want their opinions or that I think their English is not good. I just think that in every thread, in order to be considered "resolved", there have to be some native's replies. This comes from the way I see grammar, that in my opinion should only be "descriptive".

I completely agree. I've studied English grammar extensively, and although I still make too many mistakes, I'm not concerned about them. Whenever I have a doubt on grammar and vocabulary, I always search by myself.

What I really, really lack is the feeling for what would be the natural way to express a complex idea, and this is whay I prefer receiving answers from natives. I don't want to resemble one of those dusty, ancient grammar books you can find in a library!

Hello, I'm Chiara. I agree with you. Anonymous posts are not very nice for me neither. But sometimes when I write (usually I write to the Writing forum for having my essays checked), my name doesn't appear. It happens because I wite from different computers. What can I do? I can't remember my very complicated password all the times! So I don't do it on purpose.

I also would like to say that my English is not so good to allow me to judge other people's editing, but somehow I agree with "Anonymous" saying that he/she doesn't agree with some corrections made by some advanced students who are not mother-tongue. Maybe, if the corrections made on our texts are not very clear for us, they should be corrected by more people.

Bye, Chiara

Well, that is right but what if you have to ask something embarrasing and you don't want to let others know who is asking so, it is helpful, isn't it? Ah, but this is not my case..Why is it useful in answering? Imagine that your answers are useful, when I read something in the grammar section..okay, I will admit it, I don't usually look at Anon posts since sometimes they post with silly things! (Silly because those things they say make no sence).

Anon, if the one above wasn't you, then, that would mean that you haven't been here for a week more or less, then, that would lead us that you are not that frequent you said in one of your first posts..!

Sorry, but I think you're barking up the wrong tree! Big Smile [:D]

What does this idiom mean? That I am in a wrong way? Hmm..yes, that person's English doesn't seem as good as yours, are you a native??

Who knows? Seems that there are two Anons now and one of them is using idioms all the time!Stick out tongue [:P] (Phew? What does it mean? Something like.."What a relief!"?)
