thi is my essay:

The “Chess players” is an Indian story, which toke a place of Wajid Ali Shah era in 1856. This story illustrates the daily life of Indian at that time, which was a reason of fall Lucknow in the British hands. This essay will illustrate the falling of Lucknow in terms of patriotism and values in people and leaders.

The lack of patriotism in the people and the leaders will clarify in this paragraph. The people of Lucknow were “plunged deep in luxury”. Their main concern was enjoying themselves. For example, “one might arrange parties for dancing and singing another would find enjoyment only in the drowsy ecstasy of opium”. Because of indulgence in luxury, they were neglecting their country rights. One of these rights is to defense their country from the British, but because of the depravation, they were not patriotic . In addition,    the leaders were not patriotic as well. For instance, Mirza Sajjad Ali and Mir Raushan Ali were “masters of hereditary estates”, but they did not care about them and “they lounge around at home enjoying their idleness”. Thus The leaders’ idleness, lack of patriotism and indulgence in luxury make Lucknow fall easily in the British hands.

The absence of values was the second reason of falling Lucknow in the British hands. There were many values that missing such as leadership. Mirza Sajjad Ali and Mir Raushan Ali should be responsible as a leaders, while they were “had no worry”. They were “quite unaware of when it was noon or afternoon evening”. Both of them were “utterly useless to God or men, at home or in the world”.  One of the values that the people were missing is the country love. The people were too busy to love their country or even to work for it. For example, when the British army enters the city “not a drop of blood was spilled” because the value of loving the country was missing , this made them watch instead of defense. Thus, the absence of some values makes the fall of Lucknow very easy and the people very shadow.

In conclusion, “The Chess Players’” discusses many important issues expressed through the people and the leaders of Lucknow. They all were plunged in luxury, which make them neglect their country. The absence of some values also distracts them from serving Lucknow.  The luxury and the lack of values make Lucknow fall in British hands easily.

Thanks

The “Chess players” is an Indian story, which takes (a) place (of) in the Wajid Ali Shah era in 1856. This story illustrates the daily lives of Indian's at that time, which was a (reason) cause of Lucknow's falling in British hands. This essay will illustrate the moral decline and the spreading of disloyalty.

The lack of patriotism in the people and the leaders will portayed in this paragraph. The people of Lucknow wallowing ( plunge connotes negative ideas to me) deep in luxury”. Their main concern was gratifying their senses. For example, “one might arrange parties for dancing and singing another would find enjoyment only in the drowsy? ecstasy of opium”. Because of their indulgence in luxury, they took a blind bit of a notice of the country's problems.
