HI GUYS!!! I AM SUPPOSED TO WRITE AN ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY ABOUT IF JUAN VELASCO, A LATINO AUTHOR, WAS THE RIGHT PERSON TO WRITE A FOREWORD FOR UNDER THE FIFTH SUN:LATINO LITERATURE FROM CALIFORNIA, BUT IT'S BEING CONFUSING FOR ME . THIS IS WHAT I CAME UP WITH:
A foreword provides the reader an introductory piece of what a book is going to be about, but finding the right person to perform this job could be difficult for anybody. In Under the fifth Sun: Latino Literature from California, Juan Velasco was selected to write the foreword. While some readers believe that Velasco was unclear in his foreword, he was the right choice to do the job.For his educational accomplishments, grateful knowledge of Chicano studies, and his personal background, Juan Velasco was the right choice the foreword.
First, because of his educational accomplishments and his actual place in the English department at Santa Clara University, Velasco was the right choice for the foreword. Velasco received his first Ph.D. in 1992 from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain. His area of specialization was Cotemporary Latin American Literature and his dissertion title was: Las diferentes ediciones de “La sombra del Caudillo” de Martin Luis Guzman. In addition, he received his second Ph.D. from UCLA in 1995.His area of specialization was Contemporary Chicano/a Autobiography. His current research fields are Chicano/a Literature, Border Creative, and Creative Writing. As a Post-Doc Fellow of UCLA’S Chicano Studies Research Center in 1999-200,Velasco completed research of his book: American Me: A study on Contemporary Chicano/a Autobiography.
In addition to his educational accomplishments, Velasco brings a valuable contribution to the Chicano studies. Even know Velasco is from Spain, he had spent most of his time studying Chicano/a Literature. Discussing the relevant literature and introducing readers to historical debates in the field, Velasco distinguishes the importance of the cultural studies with the experiences of the Latino communities. He has written many scholarly articles on ethnicity, race, and nationalism in Mexican American texts.Along with his new perspective to the Chicano Studies.
