Statement of Motivation
Based on solid academic training in economics and management in university and graduate school respectively, I’ve always been enthusiastic about recognizing how business world works within economic system. As a result, I applied jobs related to management and financial economics field after graduation. The blend of academic background and working experiences makes me more determined to set career goal in management position in multinational scale corporate. I believe Master of Business and Economics in University of ABC would further equip me in attaining what I aim for because of ABC leading position in management and economic research internationally.
My bachelor degree in Economics has given a strong foundation to my analytical skills since economic analysis involves a lot of long, complex and intricate inference, calculations and the application of basic math skills. Four years academic training cultivated my manner to think in a more logical and analytic way when facing complicated problems no matter in advances study or on the job.
Advanced study in Master of Telecommunications Management in XYZ University established my foundation of academic research and improved my career prospects. During my summer internship at Far Easton Telecommunications Company I was a member of a variety of mobile marketing promotions taking telecommunication as marketing tool, where I learned how technology could alter and shape design of marketing projects and even the business strategy of company. Moreover, this internship experience turned out to be inspiration for my master thesis
My master thesis “A Study of Key Factors for the Integration of 3G with WLAN Services”, which was to survey and analyze the most potential successful business model for telecommunications carriers implementing new service brought by emerging technology. In addition, this thesis was published on the international management journal “Asia Pacific Management Review” titling ‘Key Factors for successful Rollout of Mobile Access Services’. The publication rendered me the confidence in ability of academic research and thesis writing.
During the period of my work as a R&D project manager in ASUSTek Computer Company, I had an opportunity to take charge in a flagship laptop. While the project proceeds to final R&D testing stage, the sales manager proposed an additional specification according to the latest market competitor analysis. However, this new proposal is turned down by R&D teams because of apparent constraints from existing circuit design, laptop case design and emergent mass production schedule.
I believe in providing a non-negotiable high standard product with comparative competitiveness is the best strategy policy for company. I recognized a concession in both R&D and sales teams is inevitable for breaking this bottleneck. Presenting to management level about hurdle faced by R&D team and inevitable delay of mass production schedule for fulfillment of additional specification is quite challenging for me. Meanwhile, I assist R&D team looking for new electronics components replacing original ones and remolded the laptop case. This specification is finally achieved although the delay is far more than our expectation. But, I’m glad to say the effort paid off in the end. We got great sales grades and this product won iF design Award 2005!
Realizing financial analysis ability plays a critical role in management career, I was hungering for sharpening my related knowledge and skills. As a financial statement and credit analyst at Bank SinoPac, my analysis objects are overseas corporate with which the Bank has existing or potential syndication loan. In addition to financial statement, the analysis of macroeconomics and industry constitute overall credit analysis. Furthermore, I also do research on corporate business strategy, future capital expenditure plan, and financial estimation under various scenarios to appraise risk degree that bank would undertake.
Except for chasing after progression in a range of expertise, my multidimensional development can also been shown in my care about social issues. I have been a volunteer in Taiwan Association for Human Rights (TAHR) since March, 2007~Dec, 2007. I attended volunteer training course as my first step. Then I actively took part in the volunteer activities in touring workshops, guidance speech, films exhibition, petition activities especially in death penalty abolishment issue in Taiwan. This precious experience enlarged my eyesight to a wider scope by which I learned to put myself in others’ position especially the minority group in the society.
The academic training and working experiences have not only given me a complete and firm grounding in management and finance but also taught me the invaluable skills to work effectively with people in teamwork. Working experience in Taiwan makes me familiar with management model from Asian perspective. I’d love to share it with other classmates on multicultural basis and I also desire to be more exposed to western management model. I believe the academic reputation of ABC and strong link with business and financial community by Faculty of Business and Economics will help me work towards the attainment of my career goals.
