Hi everyone,
I intent to apply for a bachelor programme in International Business Administration at a dutch university.
My application is supposed to include a Letter of Moivation (max. length: 2 pages) which is to cover 4 different fields:
- What is my international background and experience? (nationality, place of birth or residence, previous education, international experience).
- Why do I want to enrol in the English-language programme in International Business Administration?
- Why did you choose the certain university?
- What are my career aspirations?
The letter below is the result of a lot of atempts to fullfil the requirements, but I still think that it is too long and does not contain enough aspects of my motivation.
Please could someone help me on this quest.

Letter of Motivation
In this letter I want to describe who I am and state my interesst in the bachelor program in International Business Administration at University.
My name is Name and I was born on Date in City/Country.
At present I live in City where I attend the last year at School which is a privat, eucumenic High School, covering 5th to 13th grade with a high reputation.
My estimated graduation will be in May 2006 after which I am planning to do a comercial work experience at Company/City for 2 months followed by studies in International Business Administration.
Concerning my future career I intent to achieve the Bachelor of Science, followed by the Master of Science in International Business Administration.
This education is supposed to make me understand the complex structures of international companies, the way they work and in which markets they operate. It is to prepare me for working in the Finance, Investment, Consulting and Strategy departments of international corporations or furthermore help me set up my own business.
One of my main reasons why I want to pursue the chosen international career is my strong interesst in other people and cultures. To my mind learning more about foreign people, their cultures and different mentalities is necessary to widen one’s horizon and to understand global developments.
Moreover I am a very outgoing person and I always feel quite enthusiastic about meeting foreign people and to learn more about them and their country.
On account of my interesst in other people and cultures, my international background is multifarious.
In 1999 I spent 2 weeks abroad within a school exchange program in City/Country.
3 years later, from July 2002 to May 2003, I spent 10 months in City/Country where I lived with a host family and attended College.
This exchange had a deep impact on me. It helped me to increase my English skills and also made me a lot more mature. Living in a foreign country, learning a foreign languages and being confronted with a different culture was a great experience, I do not want to miss in life.
Beside the English language I find it most important to learn at least one other foreign language. Therefore I studied French for 4 years and started learning Spanish 2 ½ years ago. To improve my Spanish skills I spent one month in City/Country attending the summer school Summer School in 2005
Beside my international experiences, which I have been gladfully able to make throughout the last years, I have always been very interessted in economics and political developments.
I like thinking about business prospects and how they could be realized for instance.
In 2004 I got my first impression how a company operates when doing a commercial work experience for 2 months at the medium-seized company Company for international capital investments.
Furthermore I decided to take voluntarily part in a project called Project from 2004 to 2005 offered by Company, in addition to economy classes in school. Within this project the participants were to analyse an international corporation and a medium-size company by economic aspects and finally to theoretically set up an own business.
These experiences gave me a deeper insight in the way global corporations and also medium-seized companies are structured and the way they work. Analysing different markets, the strenghts and weeknesses of a company and deciding how it could be established in the market was definitely a fascinating experience I have made and meant a lot of fun for me. Moreover I realized even more how essential and much more effective it is working in a group compared to working on your own.
Since these experiences I have been absolutely convinced that the International Business Administration program is the one which suits me best.
Regarding the international career, I pursue, I intent to study at a highly reowned international university in a foreign county wich offers a very international atmosphere, excellent career prospectives and the opportunity to make new foreign friends. Furthermore I prefere studying in a bigger city in which I get the opportunity to make a lot of new exciting experiences.
Since I have been playing tennis for almost nine years, for me it is also an important aspect that the university where I want to study, offers many possibilities to do different sport activities.
After doing a lot of research, I decided to apply for the bachelor program in International Business Administration at University. To my mind University is an internationaly highly reowned university which offers its students an excellent standard of education, comparable to the best Business schools in the USA. Furthermore I really appreciate the combination of a high standard academic studies combined with a practical and businesslike approach.
In addition I am impressed by the number of its reowned partner universities all over the world and the university’s membership in the Organisation. This is a very important aspect for me because I want to spend at least one semester abroad at another excellent university in Asia or the United States for example.
Moreover I like about University that it offers its students a lot of possibilities to do sports.
Eventually I would really appreciate to study in City since I visited the city in october 2005. In my opinion Rotterdams gives the impression of being a very cosmopolitan city which combines the traditional Nationality way of life with a very international atmosphere.
To sum up, getting the opportunity to study International Business Administration at University and to proof that I am willing to put all effort in these studies would mean a lot to me.
Yours Sincerely
