Dear Mr.*** :
After finishing high school , I enrolled in the School of Engineering at ***University.
Because of my interest in power generation and distribution, I chose
electric power engineering as my major study when I was a junior.
In my fourth year final project, I studied the protection
system of transmission lines when small power
producers are connected to the electric utility grid. This study
provided me with valuable knowledge of how load flow calculation and
system protection requirements would change if the electricity from many
small power producers were fed to the grid network, and how the
protection
system should be designed to stabilize and maintain
the rest of the system unaffected by the fault. I
also examined many different kinds of power generation, especially
renewable energy, which is becoming more and more important for the
future.
After graduation from
university in autumn 2003, I started working as a project engineer
at *** Company. I was responsible for the procurement of equipment
and supplies such as gtas-insulated switchgears (GIS), circuit
breakers, cables, etc. Also, my duties were to deal with the technical
problems of customers during the project, and to collect all
technical data and requirements necessary for bidding on a new substation construction project.
Working in an international company, I
gained various experiences, both solid technical skills and
management skills. I learned how to organize and manage a project within time constraints. By dealing with different customers,
I learned how difficult it is to fulfill their needs. This job
also gave me the opportunity to be exposed to teamwork-based problem-solving, which is important for all business.
To broaden my knowledge of power generation, I participated in a MSc energy systems [program? course? seminar? conference?]
at Aachen University of Applied Sciences. Here I learnt about
both conventional and alternative power
generation technologies. My special interests are grid-connected
hybrid systems and distributed generation, which I have discovered that
your research group is working on. With an opportunity to work in
your well-equiped test facilities and with learn from your
research experience, I would be able to acquire
sufficient knowledge to complete my assignment and thesis, and to
conduct ongoing research afterwards.
Thank you very much for your consideration of my application.
Sincerely yours,
