What's the antonym of 'Counterfactual'? I am looking for a word which is actually a synonym to 'logical'. 'Logical' or 'reasonable' and 'Counterfactual' are antonyms right? But I am seeking something with 'factual' or 'fact'.
Thanks

Hi Maverick,

'logical' and 'factual' are not necessarily synonyms; 'counterfactual' and 'logical' are not antonyms. An argument may be logical, but need not be factual.

The only antonym I can think of for counterfactual is "contrary to fact". maybe someone else knows another - I look forward to learning it.

Hi Abbie

"contrary to fact", is a synonym to 'counterfactual' I think, not an antonym. I am sure it's just a typo...
Hmmm...But I was thinking of a word for that, not a phrse.
Yes I see, I was my bad -- illogical and counterfactual are not synonyms. I am zoned off now I suppose.
Any additional ideas will be welcomed.

Thanks

Hello Maveric,

I think the antonym of counterfactual is unconditional, I am not sure.

Websters gives the following as synonyms for counterfactual

"FALSE erroneous, inaccurate, incorrect, specious, unsound, untrue, wrong."

Yes, it shows 'false' as the most suitable synonym for our word but I don't really think they mean the same, at least usually.
