Hi, everyone! I’m
new to this forum.
First of all, a
brief introduction about me. I’ve been living in the States almost 10 years
during which I spent most in the schools and part-time jobs. Now I work at home
but trying to find a job and now I’m afraid my writing skill isn’t good enough
for Cover Letter and Resume. My academic background didn’t require much of extensive
writings in English, and I’m aware of my writings are often very strange
sounding even with correct grammar.
So I would greatly appreciate
if you take a time to look at my cover letter and resume and give me correction
suggestions and healthy criticism.
Oh, I found the
name of Director of Human Resources of the Company I’m applying. It is
obviously a woman’s name (Iris), but I’m not sure she’s single/married/divorced
(is Ms. Ok?). Also, in the last section of the resume, I stated that I WAS
a member of SME and ASME. Should I get rid of it or not now that I’m not a
member anymore?
Many thanks in
advance.

Ms. AAA BBBB
Director of Human Resources
ABC Company

Dear Ms. BBBB:
From ABC Company’s web site, I learned about the training
program for college graduates. I’m very interested in this program with ABC
Company especially in Programming, Production/Engineering and Newsroom Departments,
and I believe that my strong academic background and motivation are appropriate
for this training program position.
While working toward my bachelor’s degree, I was employed as
an intern for Water Department of B City, B State for two
consecutive semesters. I assisted Engineers with their daily task including
administrative tasks, agenda/presentation preparations and technical
calculation tasks. I was also in charge of converting old data into digital
form and successfully converted 2 year worth of data during my stay as an
intern.
In addition to internship, my experience also includes
working part-times in food/service field. Because of the small size of these
businesses, I have been exposed to and participated in many aspects of managing
a business, including marketing and inventory management. More importantly, I
learned the importance of working as a team.
I believe that the combination of my education,
interpersonal skill, ability to learn fast and ability to work in a fast paced
environment is well-suited to the training program, enabling me to pursue a
career in the broadcasting field. I look forward to talking with you regarding
this training program position with ABC Company. I have enclosed a copy of my
resume with additional information about my qualifications. Within the next two
weeks I will contact you to confirm that you received my email and resume and
to answer any questions you may have.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
My Name
