Hi

Is it OK to say: I paid for the course upfront because I wanted to be more credible. (which means that I wanted someone to believe me that I'm really going to attend it) Is the word credible OK? Maybe "truthful"?

Also: Is it always interchangeable to say either: I tried to not do it OR I tried not to do it???

#1 Credible is ok. Plausible is possible

#2 The first sentence would rarely be used, unless emphasising the negative. It would be even more emphatic as "I so tried to not do it!" It's awkward to say.
