I wouldn't make any inferences as to the gender of your friend if I heard you say that.

My oppinion is that if a person says about someone in such manner that conceals gender, it must definitely be someone of the opposite gender.

So if my task was to emphasise that the friend I am meeting with is a woman or a man, I would mention it somehow. Say, 'I have a date with my best friend at 4 p.m. This is a fellow (girl) that I know since the age of 10' would be better if you don't want to be misunderstood. IMHO.

Excuse me, I don't understand the latter. Who knows what?

I thought you wanted to say 'I have a date with my best friend' and to be sure that the one you say it to will not confuse your friend's sex. That is why I suggested that you should add mentioning of your friend's gender because, IMHO, most people would suppose it is a man. If you don't want confusion, don't skip this detail. That's what I wanted to say.

You mean my best friend might be confused about his/her own sex. i doubt it. Don't ask me about his/her mind. Lol.Wink [;)]
