Dear teachers and friends,

Here is the situation. Kindly please review my writing. Your kind assistance would be very much appreciated.

A couple of months ago, John turn down job offer from company A because at the same time, he also had another offer from company B. After considering both companies, John decided to work at company B. however, after 2 months working there, John found that the job is boring and didn’t match with his experience. Write a letter to company A asking whether they still can accept you there. Ask about the salary rising too.

Accept offer as Engineer at company A

Dear Michael,

The above matter is referred. Thank you for your kindness to offer me a job as Engineer at company A two months ago. After considering your offer carefully, I decided to accept the job.

As per our conversation with Lisa, she told me that my salary would be USD 2000. I’d be very much appreciated if you can raise the salary up to USD 3000.
Your kind consideration would be very much appreciated.

Best regards,

John

Any better ideas, any comment? Thank you guys.

You need to start again with more humility.  You have refused a job offer but now want a second chance.  Apologize, explain the situation as best you can, and I don't think you should niggle about salary, even if it is required by the assignment.

Dear Mr Mister Micawber,

Thanks for your advice. I really appreciate that. When I asked my ex-boss, he also told me the same thing. It’s a huge mistake by choosing the current work while I turn down the better offer. Sometimes we made a mistake, and I should learn from that. I found out from the internal staff, they still lack of staff. That’s why I think that I still have a chance to go there. Hopefully they will accept me. How about this draft?

Ah, forgot to state the reasons why I want to re-consider that offer

The reasons why I re-consider the offer are

1.      The new job that I take is not match with my experience

2.      The environment is boring, not as expected

3.      The boss is ridiculous, where she cannot accept idea from others

4.      No internet access even though we need it to get the information

5.      We are not allowed to bring our own notebook

6.      One of my friend just join the company A and I’ve been told lot of positive things in company A which I won’t get it in company B

Even though these are the real reasons, but I don’t think I have to tell company A so they won’t think that I won’t fit in their environment. I need strong reasons why I want to go there. Not just blame others.

Subject: Reapplication for position of Engineer at Company A

Dear Mr [Surname],  [You may use the first name only if you are close friends.]

Thank you for your kindness in offering me the position of Engineer at company A on [date].

Although your offer was very attractive, I felt that I was unable to accept it at that time, because I had just made a provisional commitment to another employer.  However, that commitment is now at an end, and I would be grateful if you could reconsider me for the vacancy at this late date.

I apologize for my tardiness, and I thank you very much for your time and trouble.

Sincerely yours,

My Name

Thanks Mr. Mister Micawber.for your prompt reply.

I just have a few questions.

that commitment is now at an end” – Correct me if I’m wrong. That sounds like I’m doing some contractual job. Actually, it’s permanent and I will only leave the current company if I got the writing offer from company A.

And thanks again for the new vocab, tardy which was mean delaying or delayed beyond the right or expected time @ slow in action or response @ sluggish

A little stretching of the truth, Hampeh-- a white lie.
