Could you tell me how to describe the x and the y axis?

My try: The y axis shows DJIA with the of 1000 to 12000, and x axis shows the year.

Correct my sentence please.

Thanks.

The x and y axis indicates the year and DJIA ranging from 1000 to 12000, respectively.

Great!

Thanks, Sameer.

I think its a typo. Should it be 'indicate'?

I feel "indicates" is right, because we intend to use simple present here. (Simple present is used for defining or explaining something). smile

Thanks again! Sameer.

Yes, I agree, but does 'indicates' agree with the subject 'x and y axis', even though the word 'axis' itself is singular?

Or should it be 'axes' if you use 'indicate'?

Good catch... it should be "axes" with "indicates". I have gone through some materials over the internet to verify this. Thank you Liveinjapan.

Just try google-ing "x and y axes indicates" with the double quotes.
