Is there a collective noun in English for devices (especially electrical appliances) used in the kitchen such as dishwasher, washing machine, fridge?

TIA

In the U.S., appliances.

Interestingly, in the U.S., if you say there is a "white sale," it refers to sheets and towels, not refrigrators, etc. (And of course they don't have to be white!)

Barbara, who answers in American English.

Ah, you learn something new every day!  I've seen posters for white sales in the US, and not realised what it meant.  I thought it was just a marketing thing, like 'Blue Cross Day' where everything marked with a blue cross is discounted.

It seems there is a difference between US and UK English here.

To us, these large items are called white goods. (fridge/freezer/washing machine/dishwasher/tumbledrier).

Kitchen appliances are just the small portable things such as blenders, kettles, toasters.

What's a kettle? Stick out tongue [:P] But I notice coffee maker is missing from your list! Big Smile [:D]

(I'm kidding, folks. This ia reference to the British love for tea and the American love for coffee.)

Just as a matter of interest; are there any British or American people here with bread machines in their kitchens?
I had never seen one until I came to Japan, but then I do tend to avoid kitchens. Stick out tongue [:P]

They are one of the neatest devices I have ever come across. You simply toss all the ingredients into the things, switch them on, and a short while later you have hot fresh bread!
