Five people around the world die from cancer every five seconds. And 3 people around the world die from smoking related diseases every five seconds. While  there's nothing much we can do to prevent cancer, smoking related diseases are completely preventable.

Are there any mistakes?
Thanks.

(You can stop smoking to prevent cancer  -   just kidding.)

I'd suggest "three" in place of "3" just to be consistent.   - A.

Thanks, Avangi. I know what you mean. Perhaps, I shouldn't have chosen cancer which is linked to smoking.

Hi,
Five people around the world die from cancer every five seconds. And 3 people around the world die from smoking related diseases every five seconds. While  there's nothing much we can do to prevent cancer, smoking related diseases are completely preventable.

Five people around the world die from cancer every five seconds, and three people around the world die from smoking-related diseases every five seconds. While  there's nothing much we can do to prevent cancer, smoking-related diseases are completely preventable.

I don't like the repetition  in your first two sentences. How about this?

Around the world every five seconds, five people die from cancer and three people die from smoking-related diseases. While  there's nothing much we can do to prevent cancer, smoking-related diseases are completely preventable.

You seem to be taking the position that cancer is never related to smoking.

Best wishes, Clive

Yes.  I don't know what I was thinking.

Thanks, Clive. I wonder why politicians tend to repeat things. I was trying to mimic their style.

Hi,
Yes, repetition is a common rhetorical technique in speaking. But it's usually less effective in writing.
