Is there any difference between these two sentences?

a) The Nanotechnology is essential to ensuring the growth and development of tomorrow's technology.

b) The Nanotechnology is essential to ensure the growth and development of tomorrow's technology.

Nanoscience is essential to ensure the growth and development of tomorrow's technology.

Don't use 'The'  with nanoscience or nanotechnology. The 'to" form of a verb is the infinitive. Use 'to ensure.'

I changed technology to science merely for style so as not to use the same word twice in one sentence. It's not a point of grammar.

The previous post is the best example, but to give you variation and freedom of style, this is also a possibility:

Nanotechnology is essential for the ensured growth and development of tomorrow's technology.

The purpose of religion is to protect the people, but people try to protect it.
