The apparatus are fed from a supply source other than the MAINS or from a SUPPLY APPARATUS, and which contain a LASER SYSTEM or produce an internal OPERATING VOLTAGE greater than 4000 V (peak), this standard applies as far as applicable.

The above words is from Standard UL6500 of US.. I can't catch the differences among " a supply source", " the MAINS" and " a SUPPLY APPRATUS".
I know the MAINS is fed from Electric Power Department of US.. It's the 110V in US.
BTW, can I use the word "catch" instead of "understand"?Smile [:)]

I'm not an electrician or engineer, Soochu, but 'supply source' is the general term, and 'the mains' (as you said) is from the infrastructure, while a 'supply apparatus' would likely be something like a private generator or a windmill or a battery.

Yes, you can say 'catch' instead of 'understand', but 'catching' is a more shallow process than 'understanding', so should be saved for brief bits of information input.
