Hi everybody.  My name is Wil and I am posting for first time; I am Colombian and my native language is Spanish.
I don't know how to identify the direct and the indirect object in a sentence, therefore I will be grateful if somebody can hel me with the following sentence:

Sentences grow from phrases to independent clauses.

Somebody told me that:

Indirect object = to independent clauses
Direct object = sentences
Subject = phrases

but I am not very sure about this answer.

Thank you very much in advance

Wil

Hi,
Sorry, your understanding of this is not good, but we can help you. (:)) Smile

You need to begin by looking at much simpler examples.

What is the subject, verb and direct object in this sentence? Mary bought a gift.

What is the subject, verb, direct object and indirect object in this sentence? Mary gave the gift to Tom.

Best wishes, Clive
